Open-air "Farmers' Market". Found around the perimeter streets of Lincoln Park in the center of this downtown area, Pacific Ave. to Cedar, Ocean Blvd. to Broadway. Market days were Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A "Market Master" was present to settle disputes between customers and "farmers", from prices to stall ownership. Fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, nut butter, eggs, fresh-dressed poultry, rabbits, and home-baked goods were all sold at "below store prices".

For a while, North American Aviation, Inc. occupied the Douglas plant to assemble a 4-engine attack bomber-fighter jet for the Air Force. This turned out to be a fiasco because the plane was built entirely without any kind of "firepower" (i.e. no cannon, no machine gun, no bomb bay). When the designers asked he Air Force for information the said, "Never mind; we will take care of all that." The 25 planes were delivered and sent to an Arizona storage area, and finally melted down for scrap aluminum.
