At Atlantic Blvd. and Bixby Road a crowd gathers to watch a black and white TV broadcast on a 10 or 12-inch screen. (Some people brought stools to stand on to get a better view). Mr. M.E. Mattox had an early radio store which also became the first television store in Long Beach. [1946(?) or 1947]

Senior Citizens' Recreation. In what was Lincoln Park -- Broadway to Ocean, Pacific to Cedar -- were many activities for the aged of Long Beach: shuffleboard, croquet, checkers, or just spectating, and fishing off Belmont Pier (the poles were light-weight and a good time was had by all even if nothing much was caught but smelt).
