Title
The home of Madame Modjeska (Polish opera star), designed by Stanford White and built by General Modjeska (retired from army of Poland) for his wife in the "Forest of Arden", a part of the Modjeska dream of a colony high in the Santa Ana mountains. As of 1983, the home and property in Modjeska Canyon were still owned by the Gus Walker family, owners of Farmer & Merchant banking in Long Beach.

Olive Hill Estate of the Barnsdall maiden daughters whose wealth accrued from oil. Building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright during his "Egyptian era". After the death of the Barnsdall daughters the estate stood vacant. During the depression (1929-37), vandals and tramps stole the furnishings, tor out the doors and windows for firewood, and slept or camped in the house. In 1943, Mrs Valley Knudsen (dairies) formed a committee to save Olive Hill and raised funds to restore the estate. Then she turned it over to Los Angeles City Parks & Recreation as an art center.
