The first lift by the giant German crane at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. This crane is lifting more than 100 tons of barge filled with seawater as a trial. This crane was one of four floating cranes built by German industries to maneuver in water because their land is very swampy and the ground unable to support large cranes with heavy lifts. It was taken as reparation from the German submarine-building facility at Keil, Germany, and was brought across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal and up the Pacific Coast to Long Beach, and reassembled here. (The other cranes, taken by England, France and Russia were all lost at sea). Pictures are poor due to very foggy morning.

U.S. Naval Air Station, Roosevelt Field. Roosevelt Field was alongside the Long Beach Naval Station and Shipyard. It was immediately west of the Navy Station on Terminal Island. It was later de-actified and the buildings were used for Married Officers Quarters (M.O.Q.) of the Long Beach Navy. There were also Bachelor Officers Quarters (B.O.Q.).

"The Nineteenth Fleet" (aka, "The Zippered Fleet") was a collection of "mothballed" ships at U.S. Navy Shipyard. The smaller ships shown are attack destroyers that have been cleaned, their hulls painted with anti-fouling paint and their armaments covered with a cocoon to protect from dampness, and dehydration equipment installed. The larger ship is the "Isle Royal", a submarine tender which carries small stores, food and movies to supplement stores on subs.
