Sandblasting a steel sphere at the U.S. Naval Ammunition & Net Depot. The sphere and the large closed cylinders were part of a giant submarine defense net that was strung across Long Beach and Los Angeles harbors during WWII to protect shipping and the U.S. Navy from foreign submarine attack. After the war, the net was cleaned and stored at Seal Beach.
