For a while, North American Aviation, Inc. occupied the Douglas plant to assemble a 4-engine attack bomber-fighter jet for the Air Force. This turned out to be a fiasco because the plane was built entirely without any kind of "firepower" (i.e. no cannon, no machine gun, no bomb bay). When the designers asked he Air Force for information the said, "Never mind; we will take care of all that." The 25 planes were delivered and sent to an Arizona storage area, and finally melted down for scrap aluminum.
